Living in the East Midlands

The East Midlands covers a substantial stretch of the backbone of England. Running from its border in the north with South Yorkshire, to Northamptonshire in the south, the area includes several major cities and towns, alongside vast swathes of open, rolling countryside. The East Midlands is well connected by road and rail. The Midland Main Line railway line provides routes through the region’s major cities to London. By road, the M1 and A1 both snake the length of the East Midlands, helping to make it one of the most accessible parts of the country.

The major cities of the East Midlands include Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and Lincoln, all great hubs for new build homes. Nottingham and Leicester are notable university cities, and with two universities each, the student populations of each city are high. This helps to make Leicester and Nottingham energetic, young and vibrant places to live and work. Historic Lincoln is a major urban hub in the middle of a largely rural landscape. Meanwhile, bustling Derby has a rich industrial heritage. It also represents one of the gateways to the stunning countryside of the Peak District.

The Peak District is the jewel in the crown of the East Midlands. With its dramatic hills, sweeping valleys and picturesque villages, the area is the perfect place to explore and get away from it all. From relaxing walking routes to mountain biking and climbing, it is the perfect playground for the outdoor enthusiast. Towards the east of the region, the vast fenlands and the gentle countryside of the Lincolnshire Wolds provide an altogether different, yet equally beautiful landscape.

What are East Midlands property prices like?
