Canary Wharf sustains residential appeal throughout pandemic

As one of London’s key business hubs, Canary Wharf has been heavily affected by the pandemic and the initial move away from office-based work. However, Verified resident ratings on HomeViews show that its appeal as a residential neighbourhood has remained steady. Canary Wharf now boasts many of the highest-rated apartment blocks in London – and indeed the UK. We take a closer look at these developments and what this quayside location offers beyond proximity to the office.

With home working remaining a popular option for many office workers, developments in Canary Wharf have needed to prove the wider benefits of living in such a commercial area. However, resident reviews on HomeViews indicate that the growing number of residential developments in the district are holding their own when it comes to residential appeal.

While the number of journeys made on public transport in London continues to rise closer to pre-pandemic levels, we’re still some way off the city’s normal commuting levels. So what is it about Canary Wharf that still makes it such a hit with residents?

Award-winning homes

HomeViews held its annual awards ceremony in November 2021 for the UK’s highest-rated new rental developments. One award is for the highest-rated schemes in London, and includes a Top 10 list of all our highest-rated developments in the capital.

Not only was the winning building in Canary Wharf (8 Water Street, by Vertus) but also another two in the top 10 list were in this area. Sailmakers by Greystar and 10 George Street by Vertus took fifth and sixth places respectively.

Let’s take a look at some of Canary Wharf’s highest-rated buildings below. Click through onto each development page to read detailed reviews and see resident ratings for all criteria.
