Ratings for customer service have increased since the pandemic, while the proportion of Build to Rent residents who would recommend their developer is also on the up. Based on the reviews of verified residents, we’ve compiled this list of some of the best Build to Rent (BTR) developers currently operating in the UK.

Released in March 2022, HomeViews’ latest Build to Rent report provides in-depth insights into the real-life experience of residents across the UK’s rental-only developments. Build to Rent developers respond to the pandemic
HomeViews’ 2022 Build to Rent report shows that residents have consistently rated their developments strongly, even through the difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic. Build to Rent (BTR) developers handled the challenges posed by the pandemic with admirable resolve and ingenuity, and while frustrations at the closure of facilities did impact upon ratings as lockdowns wore on, these scores have since recovered.

Build to rent outperforming sales developments
Build to Rent developments consistently outperform developments that have been built for the traditional sales property market. This is true across the board of HomeViews’ ratings, and particularly for management. The extra mile BTR developers go to in order to serve their residents with a high-quality experience pays dividends in the scores submitted by residents. This extra quality and attention to detail in customer service and management is one of the key things that helps BTR developments to stand out from the traditional sales or private rental sectors.
Small is beautiful for BTR management
While management scores for BTR developments are consistently high, smaller developers appear to outperform larger companies for the quality of management. Of the top 10 average management ratings for UK BTR developments, two were for larger developments with more than 350 units, while eight developments came under the category of smaller developments (less than 350 units). The same goes for developers themselves. Developers with less than 2,000 units overall returned a higher average score for management and customer service than the larger BTR developers.
