Aldgate is in the City of London but close to the border with the East End. In fact, its name is taken from a gate in the ancient wall which used to surround London. Like the name ‘London’ itself, the origin of Aldgate’s name has been somewhat lost in the mists of time. Apparently, it’s not simply ‘Old Gate’, but may have been the much more promising ‘Ale Gate’! Let’s explore some of the best places to Live in Aldgate.

Aldgate offers the best of both worlds

This area is known in the property development world as ‘City Fringe‘. It is a sliver of the eastern city of London which has recently seen significant residential development in an otherwise intensely office-centric district. Overall, this means that residents have the best of both worlds. Sensible city life on the one hand, and edgy East End life on the other. What’s not to like?

Best places to live in Aldgate

But where are the best places to live in Aldgate? The best way to find out is by asking the people who already live there, and we did exactly that! Every day, we speak to hundreds of locals across the capital. We ask what they think not only about their area but also about their specific homes. This is what they said.

It sits on Hooper Street, which is less than a five-minute walk from Aldgate East Station and just seven-minutes from Fenchurch Street mainline station. One particular thing that residents have told us they love about City Quarter is, unsurprisingly, the location. Homeowner Lisa Klepikova had the following to say about living here:

“The location is great it has surrounding train stations (aldgate east) a cinema, Sainsburys, bars, restaurants all within a 1-minute walk if that! the building is very modern with glass balconies and a light grey exterior.”
