Rolling English countryside, great walks and inviting pubs – this is just a taste of what Northamptonshire has to offer. If you’re looking for easy access to the greener parts of England, but still want to be in the thick of the action, this could be the county for you. Let’s take a look at some of the best new homes in Northamptonshire – according to the residents who live there.
Where is Northamptonshire?
Northamptonshire is part of the East Midlands region of England. You can find it right in the heart of the country, surrounded by no fewer than eight other counties. Moving clockwise from the north – Leicestershire, Rutland, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire.
Why live in Northamptonshire?
Living in Northamptonshire means that you’re right in the middle of everything. The whole of England is accessible thanks to the county’s great road, rail and even air transport links.
Within the county itself, there are plenty of urban and rural gems. Northamptonshire’s towns and villages provide a classic English countryside image. The traditional Hornton stone used throughout the area is particularly lovely, giving properties a sense of timeless charm.
This is not to say that Northamptonshire is sleepy – it has plenty of bustling market towns like Wellingborough and Kettering, not to mention Northampton itself. In both cases, you will find Northamptonshire’s urban settings to be full of character, brimming with independent shops and restaurants, set among vibrant local art and culture scenes.
Northamptonshire is also a big draw for families with children of school-going age. The county has many of the best private and state schools in the country, offering an excellent range of ‘outstanding’ and ‘good’ Ofsted-rated establishments.
What are average property prices in Northamptonshire like?
As well as having a middle England location, Northamptonshire is also a mid-range property market in terms of price. At the time of writing (December 2021), the average house price in Northamptonshire was nearly £272,000. This is a touch under England’s national average of £281,000, recorded in August 2021 by the ONS.
It’s worth noting that there is plenty of variety in Northamptonshire’s residential market, so this average covers a broad range of property types. Grand period properties set into the rural countryside and popular villages will be much more expensive. However, flats in Northamptonshire are much cheaper. They have a current average of around £150,000, while terraced houses are closer to £195,000.
